Sam Lane burst onto the international stage in 2016, making his debut against Australia in the 2016 Trans-Tasman Trophy. 
 
His goal scoring begun in that tournament and continued throughout 2017, where he found the goals on multiple occasions. 
 
Lane made his Olympics debut at the Tokyo 2020 games.
